jTips is built on the Joomla! CMS framework, so Joomla! is required in order to run jTips. If you have an existing website that is not Joomla! based, the best approach would be to install Joomla! in a subdirectory ro sobdomain on your website and create a link from your existing website to the Joomla! website where jTips is installed. You might also want to commission a web developer to provide integration and synchronization between your original website and the Joomla! system. This would allow your users to be setup on your original website and then automatically setup in Joomla! as required. It is very easy to find a template or have a template developed for you so that your Joomla! system looks as much like your original website as possible... no one will even know the difference... you may even end up making the Joomla! system your actual website! It's that good!
The first item to check if you get a message telling you there was an error activating your system or that you have an invalid license key, is that you have entered your Activation details correctly and with no spaces at the beginning or end of the details. If you Activation Email and Activation Key look OK, you need to double check the domain name that the system is seeing. On the jTips Administrator Dashabord, click the 'About' tab. At the bottom of the tab information, there is a section that tells you the domain name of your website. If this is different to the domain name you entered when you purchased jTips, please contact our Support Team so that we can reissue your Activation Key. Also, please ensure that the jTips directories are writeable by your web server. The directories are located at:
- /path/to/your/website/components/com_jtips
- /path/to/your/website/administrator/components/com_jtips
If this does not solve your problem, or you are unsure what all this means, please lodge a support case by contact our Support Desk.
Your jTips Activation Key is valid for a single domain. So, if you havea website at www.mydomain.com and another website at www.yourdomain.com, then you will only be able to install jTips on one of those website, unless you purchase an additional license.
You can however, install jTips a number of times on the one website. For example, one website could be located at www.mydomain.com and another website at www.mydomain.com/othersite.
Yes. However, you will need your Activation Key reissued. If you need to move your jTips system to a different website, please contact our Support Team and let them know about the new website.
Essentially this means that the server you have installed jTips 2.0 and Joomla! on does not support secure background connection request to another server. Sounds complicated. To resolve this, edit the setting 'SSL Verification' on the Activate tab in the Configuration area and set it to 'No'.
This means that the menu item does not know which season to load in jTips. To resolve this, edit the affected menu item and select the approporiate season from the menu item parameters.
To avoid this in future, make sure you setup your season/competition before you create the menu items for jTips.
If you're using Joomla! 1.5, make sure you have the FTP Layer disabled in your Global Configuration. Also, make sure the follwing a fully writable:
images/ (including all subdirectories) components/com_jtips/jtips.log
You should then be able to upload Team and Season logos.

The Hot Tip
| Lowest Score Allocation Enter -1 for 'User No Tips Points' when setting up a season and when you process a round, users that forget to submit their tips will be given the same score as the user that did submit their tips, but scored the lowest. This will keep these 'forgetful' users in the game... but only just. |
