jTips 2.0 has an enormous number of configurable options, so that you can customise your competitions to suit your needs and your website. This guide will cover each of these configurable options in detail.

General

The General options tab is used to setup the jTips component and system-wide settings. Take note the changes you make to this section so that later configuration sections can be setup in a quick and effective manner.

  • Joomla! Location
This is more of a legacy feature now and has been made redundant as jTips 2.0 has evolved. The idea of this option was to properly show images when your Joomla! website was installed in a sub-directory on your domain. Only use this option if you are having trouble getting your team and season logos to display.
  • Load mootools
jTips uses mootools effects. Most newer Joomla! templates also use mootools. If the website template being used does not use mootools, this option should be set to Yes. If in doubt, set to Yes.
  • Allow Registrations
With this option enable (set to Yes), when a registered user of your website navigates to the jTips component area, they will be able to click a link to allow them to join the selected competition. When this is disabled, the user will be displayed a message informing them that registrations are not allowed. In this case, the administrator must manually add users to competitions from the User Management area.
  • Registrations Disabled Message
When the Allow Registrations option is disabled, you can override the default message to users by filling in this field.
  • Auto-Approve Registrations
When this setting is set to Yes, users that click the link to join the current competition are automatically added to it and instantly enabled. This allows them to start submitting their tips straight away. With this option set to No, when a user clicks to opt-in to the competition they are informed that their application is pending. The administrator must then enable their registration from the User Management area.
  • Enable DoubleUP
The DoubleUP feature allows each user to nominate one round per competition in which their total score for that round is doubled! This feature is a great way to ensure that everyone always has a chance to winning a competition. A DoubleUP can only be used once for each competition the user is participating in. You can see that when a user scores a perfect round, and is then awarded some bonus points, and has also elected to use their DoubleUP, their total score can jump by quite a bit! The DoubleUP option is enabled and disabled on a system-wide basis. Ie, if you enable this option, it is enabled for all current competitions.
  • Enable Comments
When this option is set to Yes, users will have the ability to submit a short comment for each round. Comments are only shown after the round has closed, and users may edit and modify their comment until such time as tipping for that particular round closes. Past comments can be viewed on the Competition Ladder or the leader board ladder on the jTips Dashboard (if enabled).
  • Enable Bad-Words Filter
This option is to be used in conjunction with the Enable Comments option. With this feature enabled, whenever a comment is submitted or updated, it is validated against a list of BadWords, phrases or patters. The user will be notified of the validation process and informed of the result. The BadWords area of the jTips Administrator Dashboard allows the administrator to configure the phrases or patters to look for and whether to replace them or prevent the comment from being submitted.
  • Enable Payments
jTips 2.0 supports payments and subscriptions that must be paid to join a competition.
    • None
      Disable the Payments feature
    • PayPal
Select the PayPal option to have jTips take care of your payments and subscriptions for you. See the PayPal section for more information.
    • Manual
Use this option if you intend to receive payments either manually or via some other means.
  • CB Integration
jTips integrates with the Community Builder component by showing user profile photos in competition ladders. Additionally, user names and photos are linked to their Community Builder profile page.
Only enable this option if you have Community Builder installed and it is version 1.1 or 1.2. jTips is not compatible with older versions of Community Builder.
  • Logging
Sets the level of logging used in jTips. Logging is used if you have an issue with jTips and the Support Desk asks to see the log file. The log file can be downloaded from the jTips Administrator Dashboard. 'Information' is the highest level of logging (most debugging information).
  • Auto Upgrade
With this option enabled (set to Yes), jTips will automatically check for updates every two weeks. If an update is found it will be automatically downloaded and installed, without any further interaction. To keep up-to-date with the latest features and enhancements, this option should be set to Yes. Note: Any customisations made via the 'Customisations' section will be maintained throughout updates.

However, the demo data is completely refreshed and randomized every 12 hours! Not everything can be randomized however, so the Comments and BadWords features have been disabled. You can log in to the Demo Site in both the front end and administration areas to really get a feel for how the system works.
