When setting up a season there is an option to enable a feature known as Precision Score.

Precision Score was designed to help split very close competitions. For example, after an entire competition has been played out, you may end up with more than one person with the same total score. Precision Score takes a user's accuracy to that next level by determining who has been most accurate with picking the scores or margins of games.

How it Works

  • For Precision Score to be effective, you need to enable it in your season/competition setup. You also need to allow user to either 'Pick the Score' or 'Pick the Margin', or both.
  • When users go to enter their tips for a round, they will then be able to enter their estimates for the score, the margin, or both - depending how you have configured the season.
  • When it comes time to process the results of the round, the system will determine the accuracy of the user's enteres values for scores, margin, or both. This accuracy value is saved as the Precision Score.

How it is Calculated

We will use an example to demonstrate how the Precision Score is determined. Assume we have a user that has selected Team A to defeat Team B by a margin of 3. We know have three possible scenarios:

  • In our first case, we will say that Team A defeats Team B by 2 points. In this case, the resulting Precision Score for the user is 1. That is, the user's accuracy was out by 1 point.
  • The second case is when Team B defeats Team B, we will say by 1. Now, the Precision Score for the user is 4. That is, the user's accuracy of picking the margin was out by 4 points becuase the user selected Team A to defeat Team B, which was incorrect.
  • The final case is the draw. Here, the Precision Score for our user is 3. Since there is no margin for a draw, the user was out by 3.

The user's Precision for each game is tallied and up and tracked in their Precision Score field. The Precision Score will continue to increase throughout the season/competition.

How is it Used

When using Precision Score, the goal for the user is to keep their Precision as low as possible. So, when we get to the end of the season, and more than one user has the highest Total Score, we can pick a single winner by looking at who has the lowest Precision Score!
